Fundraiser Tips

  1. Show your audience visually what you're raising money for.
  2. Live or silent auctions work great and provide a fun way to engage an audience.
  3. Have a fixed, reasonable goal, and consider connecting your donation account to a donation thermometer you can show on screen.
  4. Call out donations as they come in, thanking donors.
  5. Showcase some of the previous things that have been accomplished with previous donations.
  6. Consider multi-streaming your event to Facebook Live or YouTube to attract a greater audience.
  7. Make sure your communication with your speakers is super clear and concise. Less is more.
  8. Be sure every speaker has checked their tech in advance of the event to find any red-flags early on.
  9. Up your production value with lighting, a higher quality video camera and microphone to stand above the crowd.
  10. Come up with a plan to share highlights from your event after it's over to keep your audience engaged.
  11. Consider creating an audio only version of your event (especially if it's a series) for podcasts.
  12. Remember that it's normal for virtual events to have about a 50% rate of dropoff from registration to attendance.
  13. Make sure to have fun!

Answers to common questions

What's the best way to accept donations?

For fundraisers, we generally recommend the Crowdcast platform, as it has a built in donation system via Stripe and Patreon. Make sure to have a Stripe account setup in advance.

What type of fees are associated with fundraiser events?

Besides our consultation fee and the platform cost, there are generally payment processing fees that amount to about $.30 + 2.9% per transaction. Each platform varies.

Can I use Venmo for my fundraiser?

Yes, it's definitely possible to use Venmo, but there's currently no good way to integrate Venmo into a call to action within your event. For that, you need to use Stripe or Paypal.

Can I do a live auction?

Yes, this is definitely possible, though it requires that we use a low-latency platform option; meaning the platform has to have minimal delay from when the speakers are broadcasting to when the attendees are watching.
